Applying for Progressive Leasing takes about five minutes and delivers an instant decision. This guide walks through exactly what you'll need, the application methods available, and what happens after approval so you can prepare before you start.
What You Need to Apply
Progressive Leasing requires the following to process your application:
- Proof you are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your state)
- A valid Social Security Number or ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number)
- An open and active checking account with routing and account numbers — The lease-to-own program uses this both for underwriting and for recurring lease payments
- A credit or debit card in your name — this is required for the initial payment at lease signing
- A verifiable source of income — employment, self-employment, retirement benefits, disability benefits, or other regular income
- Residency in an eligible state — The program is not available in MN, NJ, or WI
Three Ways to Apply
1. Online at progleasing.com
Visit progleasing.com and select "Apply Now." You'll be prompted to choose the retailer where you plan to shop before completing the application form. The online application takes 3–5 minutes and delivers an instant decision.
2. Through the Progressive Leasing mobile app
Download the Progressive app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The app includes a store locator, in-store barcode scanner, application submission, account management, and the payment estimator. Applications through the app follow the same requirements as the web application.
3. In-store at a participating retailer
At The provider participating retailers, an associate can start the application at the point of sale using the Approve.Me application or an integrated checkout flow. You'll provide the same information required online. This method is convenient if you're already shopping in-store.
What Happens After You Submit
It typically returns a decision within seconds to minutes. There are three possible outcomes:
- Approved: You'll receive a spending amount — usually between $200 and $5,000 — which you can use immediately at the retailer where you applied. Approvals are typically valid for a limited period.
- Approved for a different amount: The company may approve you for less than you requested based on its risk assessment. You can still proceed at the reduced amount or wait and reapply later.
- Declined: If The LTO program declines your application, you'll receive an adverse action notice explaining your right to request the specific reasons for denial. The service considers many factors, so a decline is not necessarily related to credit score alone.
What to Do After Approval
- Select your items at the participating retailer, up to your approval amount. You cannot exceed the approval amount in a single lease.
- Review the lease-to-own agreement The lease-to-own program sends via email. This document includes the total 12-month cost, all early purchase amounts, payment schedule, and cancellation terms.
- Sign the lease and make your initial payment (plus tax) with your credit or debit card.
- Take home or arrange delivery of your items. The program purchases the items from the retailer on your behalf.
- Set up your account at account.progleasing.com or in the Progressive Leasing app to manage payments, view your agreement, and track your path to ownership.
How to Improve Your Chances of Approval
Progressive Leasing does not publish specific approval criteria, but based on how lease-to-own underwriting typically works, applicants generally have better outcomes when they can demonstrate:
- A checking account that has been open for at least three months with regular activity
- Regular deposits from a verifiable income source
- No history of returned payments (NSF) in the recent past
- A reasonable requested spending amount relative to income
- Accurate application information — errors and inconsistencies can trigger automatic declines
Common Reasons for Application Declines
If your Progressive Leasing application is declined, common contributing factors include:
- Insufficient or unverifiable income
- Recent bank account issues (overdrafts, returned payments, closed accounts)
- Prior lease-to-own default with Progressive Leasing or another LTO provider
- Application information that doesn't match bureau records
- Residence in a state where Progressive Leasing is unavailable
A declined applicant can typically reapply after 30 days, ideally after addressing whatever contributed to the initial decline.
Alternatives if Progressive Leasing Isn't the Right Fit
If Progressive Leasing isn't available in your state or you're declined, other lease-to-own and no-credit-needed financing options serve similar consumer needs. These include Koalafi, Acima, Snap Finance, and Katapult, among others. Each has its own underwriting criteria and retailer partnerships. Store-brand credit cards (issued by Synchrony, Comenity, and others) may also be an alternative for shoppers with fair or better credit.
